Dragon’s Lair Austin donated a $50 gift certificate for one of the artists’ prizes! Woot! If you haven’t been to Dragon’s Lair lately- you are missing out. In their new (much larger) store– they have a boutique and cosplayers on staff who know how to make costumes! And these folks know how to costume. I love the nexus of costuming and upcycling. Upcycling material is a great way to make a costume – the DIY-way! There is a big cosplay community in Austin- find a meet-up near you!
Kane Sutphin at TreeHouse has donated gift certificates for the artists’ prizes! If you don’t know what TreeHouse is or what they do- please check out their blog and how they are helping change the way we homestead. By helping homeowners make sustainable, well-informed choices- Treehouse is bettering our collective environment. Their goal – Make Sustainable Living Attainable. They also have product demos in-store with beer! TreeHouse, thank you!
Patagonia Austin just donated cool cotton polos, striped casual button down shirts, hoodies, and baseball caps! These are prizes for our Artists who win in the categories of most innovative, most decorative, and most useful upcycle.
If you haven’t heard of Ebay and Patagonia’s Common Threads Partnership– please go check it out. Patagonia is one of the leaders in clothing reuse. They have been praised for reducing their environmental impact.

Austin Upcycle Challenge is promoting reuse and upcycling of our “trash”. Let’s ReThink our waste!
We got the go-ahead from Austin Goodwill to send out our sponsorship letters. We have a tight timeline. Since we are starting small- I think most folks will be able to find money in their budgets or be able to help with amenities. The Challenge will be on June 15th, Saturday, from 9 am -2pm. The upcycle class schedule will be scheduled soon and all the contest guidelines. Yay!
Austin Upcycle Challenge is starting the process of asking for sponsors. If anyone has a business (small or large) that is interested in sponsoring our Upcycle Challenge on June 15th- please contact Blythe Christopher de Orive. We will be soliciting folks who are eco-minded, DIY-oriented, and generally just good people. We will be calling for artists soon!
